I am a member of a student organization called UDAI (http://www.udai.org ) based in University of California, San Diego, USA and University of Waterloo, Canada. One of our focuses is on spreading awareness of issues facing India including arts and cultural heritage, health, education.

In collaboration with the UN Association of San Diego and the Crafts Council of West Bengal, we are doing an arts/crafts exhibition and sale in San Diego. We also plan to have a few posters on fair trade and the Varanasi Weavers Crisis. Two artisans are visiting the Santa Fe International Folk Art from West Bengal, India and will be a part of this event. The event is going to be on June 24th. A mixed audience of about 450 people is expected.

Aid to Artisans has been doing such wonderful work in this area. We are hoping to reach to Ashoke Chatterjee who is on your board of directors and who we believe is one of the leading persons working to solve the Varanasi Weavers Crisis along with Craft Revival Trust in New Delhi. We seek information/pictures to help us in making a poster from to spread awareness during the event. We would be glad to help Aid to Artisans in any way we can during the event as well.

May I request you to please give us the contact details of Ashoke Chatterjee and any other members of Aid to Artisans who may be involved in this project?

Thank you for your email and the invitation to ATA for participating in the event. I am copying Ashok Chatterjee and Ritu of CRT on this email so you and contact them directly.

I would like someone from ATA to attend the exhibition, but let me think who would be the best person for it. If we do decide to go, I will definitely let you know.

Thank you for your interest. Please go to the Craft Revival trust website on the VARANASI CRISIS. That should give you all the information you need for a poster. At this stage we are trying to move ahead with some modest marketing support for weavers, and first efforts at public awareness.
